Bradbourne 2008

Pictures and report from Steve, thanks for the great pictures.

The 5th of the 2008 FRA junior race series rolled into deepest Derbyshire on the 24th August, with Bradbourne the venue. Conditions were good, relatively stable underfoot and with some sunshine.  Bradbourne is not the most straightforward place to get to, but two Harriers were represented, Andrew Harrison & Nichola Jackson. Because of the distance and no doubt with Bank Holiday traffic to think about, the majority of the Cumbrian based young runners did not make the journey. There was some confusion as registration was about 1km from the village hall and being tight for time, it was quite a rush to hurry along and get to the right spot! A team from Mansfield Harriers though made the relatively short trip and thoroughly enjoyed themselves for their first ever fell race, and they were enthusing afterwards about how welcoming everyone was and the sheer simplicity of the sport. They brought plenty of support and a homemade banner and had a good day. Both Andrew & Nichola ran well, Andrew coping well and looking strong after recent hamstring problems and Nichola only just finishing behind Annika Jarman (Lancaster) for 3rd spot in the U16 race. The course was more of a fell race than the juniors ran at Ingleborough last time out, with a climb, twice up and around Wigber Low for the U16s. Everyone packed into the village hall for the prize giving and the trip home was made more interesting by a visit to the Decathalon sports store in Stockport, although Nichola had to be encouraged not to spend too much of Mum & Dads money.
