Mearley Clough
The first Grand Prix race saw twelve harriers line up for this excellent local race, renowned for its pasta supper. A big welcome given Graham as he returned to the fold. From the start the field soon spread out across the fields towards Little Mearley Hall, the route on a deceptive incline where too fast a start will cause problems later. As we came out of Little Mearley Woods the leading runners were halfway up the side of Pendle Hill. After the woods you reach the very steep climb up Pendle towards Scout Cairn. Most of us are familiar with this climb but it doesn’t make it any easier, and I struggled up it yet again. The effort put in on the climb is now rewarded as you go around the cairn and start the fast decent back to the finish. Level at first before a steep descent to the stream, clamber up the other side, hurdle the wall and go like the clappers back through the woods, pass the Hall and through the fields to the finish. An excellent race, though tough, gives a great workout.

Some exciting action pictures from Mearley Clough!
Gordon looking exhausted & that's before the race. Steve Bamber looks cool as usual.
Simmy looking younger every day, thanks to the help he gets from his sister, no doubt. It's great to see Karen Nash. She's like the Lone Ranger of the Harrier Ladies. Please persuade Sarah Gohil to come & others!
