Preston Harriers' fell & trail running section . Some of our fell runners also do cross country and road running, but fell running is our main activity.Fell Running tends to be a Northern sport, the Lake District being the main centre for fell runners. The Harriers are the organizers of Paddy's Pole Fell Race, which usually takes place in June. Our junior fell runners are in a keen fell running section, you can read about them in juniorfellblog below. Preston Harriers running club was established in 1881. Mick McLoughlin the chairman of fellblog did the Bob Graham Round in 2005. Fell Runners are not as much bothered about PB's as they are about 3B's ( a local brewery).

Preston Harriers Fell Section :- fellblog
New Brittania Friday 18th 2005 Steve Bamber was kicked out the house, couldn't stand the pressure of six kids & a sleep over! So we consoled him & met at New Brittania. New Brittania early Black Horse Late The Jokes on me! Course love, I'm fine Really, no problem Isabelle, this is for you! There's a bonny boy for you. He behaved himself very well. I've had bad info recently, believing Steve to be ill! All it was a week or two ago was a bad takeaway........he never mentioned the beer! So we had a pleasing evening, Joe Howard & me needing to look after ourselves for Spain were not tempted to have a Friday late night curry. Earlier in the evening Steve & Christine Smith joined the gang for a brief bevvy or two. I'm beginning to wonder how many pubs have we not got photographed in...... Special message for Angela ( one of those pretty girls in that whistle stop tour group, we'd seen in the New Brit, The Black Bull & The Black Horse). When you grabbed me by the hand in the Black Horse, held me closer & closer to you, our lips but inches apart & told me about your cycling feet or was it feats and asked me my name twelve times, and said not to patronize you and told me you wanted to see me again, and the gang were shouting to get on with it & that they wer'n't waiting, they were off to The Sun for last orders, and I didn't know what to do for the best 'til I noticed your Gorilla sized boyfriend in a hovering position), well I mended my puncture today & I'm ready and waiting for you in the parlour. If you would like to see even more pub pictures see Blogger's view of FRA Nixon's Nightmare Ash McQueen cracked a few ribs & will be out for another two weeks. It seems all these injuries are happening since we started Night Time Navigation. Perhaps we have something to learn lads? (and lasses, well the two who've ventured out at night + that elusive Sharon that only Jim seems to know about. Harrier Mag page 14). Actually the two ladies of the night are also Sunday Mud Sloggers. Maybe we've also something to learn there.
Ash should know better, anyway we believe he's on a course to help him stop smoking & stop hitting fences. Cracked ribs & smoking are indicative of cracked heads.
Achtung! You may well say that. Come on Ash, you've sat in your saddle for long enough, just go4it.
Great Escape! Ash now you know how to miss the fences. Thanks to Steve Bamber for the idea. |
Keeping abreast with our Fell Runnners
Lots of fell runners break away from their original running clubs, mainly because they have no interest in track & field, fell running being their main interest. The fell running section of our club decided to have their own website, probably for the same reason. Now a V70, George Arnold is our oldest active fell runner. There are a few more of us close behind! One of our top female road runners, whilst marshalling at Chipping Show Fell Race 2007 commented on just how friendly fell runners are.

Preston Harriers Fell Section :- FELLBLOG is the proud fell running section of the famous Preston Harriers Athletic Club. Our athletic club has been around for 126 years. We like to call it famous because it is what Brendan Foster calls us on BBC athletic programmes. We are well represented in Track & Field presently by our pride & joy, Helen Clitheroe. We also have some accomplished road runners. Our Fell runners are a mixed bunch of beer drinkers, most fell runners seem to be like that! We do run lots of races, as can be seen in the site itself. We have a world record holder Pete Benson, you can read about his feat inside. We are pleased that you have visited our website, which of course is mainly about fell running. The website is based in Riley Green, where the blogger is also Mayor of Riley Green. If you want to see more about the club, you can visit our main site. Click here |
