Preston Harriers' fell running section . Some of our fell runners also do cross country and road running, but fell running is our main activity. Our junior fell runners are in a keen fell running section, you can read about them in juniorfellblog below. Preston Harriers running club was established in 1881. Mick McLoughlin our chairman of fellblog recently did the Bob Graham Round. Fell Runners are not as much bothered about PB's as they are about 3B's ( a local brewery).

PADDY'S POLE 2006            See competition at bottom of page

Paddy’s Pole. Tuesday 6th June 4.5 miles plus 1100 feet ascent.

We had a successful race on a beautiful evening for fell running. 153 runners including 22 ladies and we made approximately £200 thanks to an excellent team effort. I would like to thank the following for their free time and effort. Pete and Maurice on registration, Joe, Roy Peters , Ash and Steve Bamber for the finish and results, Gordon, Roy Parkinson , Mark Smith and George Andrews for marshalling the check points and especially Eileen, Barbara and Anne for sorting the pie ‘n’ peas in the village hall and Brian for fetching the pies and peas.. Kate the manageress of the hall and our president Helen for presenting the prizes. We had one incident at the finish and thanks to Sarah Gohil and Phillippa’s professionalism John was well looked after and now recovered. Sarah also took John’s car back to Preston many thanks from everyone. Finally, thanks to the land owners for permission to run the race, Sweatshop for the prizes, Ashworth’s for the pies, Pete Marquis for the portaloos.

Blogger adds................ Half way round the route, 2 females, J Hartley, Accrington & Karen Bain, Red Rose, were doing so well & pulling away from me. J Hartley especially, must have been a good 100yds ahead at Parlick summit. Then came the descent. I implored her to throw caution to the wind & leg it down. I felt sorry for her cos she'd worked so hard. All that tough effort for 95% of the race, only to be passed at speed by an old soldier from the Harriers!

Incidently, Helen prior to her flying visit to Chipping, had just given the "Harrier Junior Writing Award" to Jessica back at the track! We are grateful to our President. However she didn't eat the pie I'd saved for her....& it was with mushy peas.

The Three Pie Savers. The fell runners are very grateful to (in order of appearance) Eileen, Barbara & Anne. And anyway, what sort of Fell Race is this where you get Pie & Peas, but no Pins!

Keeping abreast with our Fell Runnners

Lots of fell runners break away from their original running clubs, mainly because they have no interest in track & field, fell running being their main interest. The fell running section of our club decided to have their own website, probably for the same reason. Now a V70, George Arnold is our oldest active fell runner. There are a few more of us close behind! One of our top female road runners, whilst marshalling recently at Chipping Show Fell Race commented on just how friendly fell runners are.

Preston Harriers Fell Section :-  FELLBLOG  is the proud fell running section of the famous Preston Harriers Athletic Club. Our athletic club has been around for well over a hundred years. We like to call it famous because it is what Brendan Foster calls us on BBC athletic programmes. We are well represented in Track & Field presently by our pride & joy, Helen Clitheroe.  We also have some accomplished road runners. Our Fell runners are a mixed bunch of beer drinkers, most fell runners seem to be like that! We do run lots of races, as can be seen in the site itself. We have a world record holder Pete Benson, you can read about his feat inside. We are pleased that you have visited our website, which of course is mainly about fell running. If you want to see more about the club, you can visit our main site. Click here
