Preston Harriers' fell running section . Some of our fell runners also do cross country and road
running, but fell running is our main activity. Our junior fell runners are in a
keen fell running section, you can read about them in juniorfellblog
below. Preston Harriers running club was
established in 1881. Mick McLoughlin our chairman of fellblog recently did
the Bob Graham Round. Fell Runners are not as much bothered about PB's as they
are about 3B's ( a local brewery).

Preston Harriers Fell Section :- Fellblog
Winter Solstice 2005 A great night was had by all & many thanks go to our Chairman Mick Mack for the organisation. Everything went according to plan. For Health & Safety reasons we counted them out & we counted them in. There were 16 out & 17 in! It's true!
Most of the ones who took part are in the snapshot. The mist is in evidence. back row:- Steve Forster, Father Christmas, Ash Nixon, Mick Mack, Jon Carberry, Steve Jackson, Father Christmas, Ken (Coconuts) Partington, Roy Parkinson & the Queen of Hearts. front row:- Sarah struck John Griffiths, Gordon Thompson, Jim Doherty & the Love Birds.
Queen of farts, love in the mist, your favourite & mine, I'm running out of superlatives! Meanwhile back to the pub for supper, as we say in Mayoral Circles.
Brian gets certified for services to Paddy's Pole. Perhaps that's in need of re-phrasing.
That's better! Rumour has it that the next certificate will be a Marr................
It's the way I tell 'em! Joe gets a Bell's for servicing the Mini Bus.
Blogger gets a Bell's for....not sure what for, begging bloggers can't be choosers & never look a gift horse in.........
John gets a Sarah, I get a Bell's! Want to swap John? Meanwhile Isabelle counts up how many pints Steve has had! I think, therefore I am, George Arnold wonders why he didn't join the Harriers before now! Free butties & general good crack! Never like this in Preston AC. Anyway I see our proper name on the new NOE cards is Preston Harriers AC!
We were delighted to see Maurice The Archivist, who brought along some fabulous pictures of earlier Harrier times.
Maurice can be seen in this photograph from 1952. He's there in the middle, ready for off.
Jim Doherty & the Love Birds are appearing at the Preston Playhouse. Tickets from Mick Mack. The real Father Christmas is appearing as usual for his one night stand on Christmas Eve. The two look-alikes above are the two Georges, Andrews & Arnold, who were appearing outside Woolies all week. Be kind to them. (It's Christmas remember?). Steve Forster is re-appearing despite severe ailments that it seems, only beer & Isabelle can cure. The Queen of Hearts & their Peg & me are appearing in a Peak District Pub over New Year. Ken (Coconuts) Partington is appearing before magistrates in Longridge soon, but that's another story.
If you would like to see even more pictures see Winter Solstice 2004.

Keeping abreast with our Fell Runnners
Lots of fell runners break away from their original running clubs, mainly because they have no interest in track & field, fell running being their main interest. The fell running section of our club decided to have their own website, probably for the same reason. Now a V70, George Arnold is our oldest active fell runner. There are a few more of us close behind! One of our top female road runners, whilst marshalling recently at Chipping Show Fell Race commented on just how friendly fell runners are. |
| Preston Harriers Fell Section :- FELLBLOG is the proud fell running section of the famous Preston Harriers Athletic Club. Our athletic club has been around for well over a hundred years. We like to call it famous because it is what Brendan Foster calls us on BBC athletic programmes. We are well represented in Track & Field presently by our pride & joy, Helen Clitheroe. We also have some accomplished road runners. Our Fell runners are a mixed bunch of beer drinkers, most fell runners seem to be like that! We do run lots of races, as can be seen in the site itself. We have a world record holder Pete Benson, you can read about his feat inside. We are pleased that you have visited our website, which of course is mainly about fell running. If you want to see more about the club, you can visit our main site. Click here |
